Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, plans to run for parliament after being released from prison.

A Pakistani court on Tuesday sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan to 10 years in prison for leaking state secrets. About a hundred more court cases against the former prime minister are ongoing. The charges against him include corruption, terrorism and even blasphemy. Along with Khan, former foreign minister Shah Mahmud Qurayshi was also imprisoned for 10 years.

Imran Khan's Pakistan Movement for Justice is leading Pakistan's national elections with 98 seats. The results of the February 8 national elections are still being counted.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has called on Pakistan to ensure a full and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arbitrary detention of the former prime minister.
