After the preliminary counting of votes, Bukele invited his supporters to a rally in front of the National Palace of El Salvador.
"According to our numbers, we won the presidential election with more than 85 percent of the vote and won at least 58 of the 60 members of the assembly," President Xi said on social media.
Nayib Bukele (Najib Abu Keile) is a Muslim, and his father, Armando (Ahmad) Bukele Kattan, is Palestinian. He was an imam and a businessman and took an active part in the country's political life.
It is noted that one of the achievements of Nayib Bukele as the head of state was the reduction of crime. Before he came to power, the number of violent deaths per 100,000 population was 103 (2015), but after Bukele's security reforms, the number of murders decreased to 19 per 100,000 population (2021).
Nayib Bukele took over the leadership of El Salvador in 2019. After coming to power, he announced an area control plan to combat high crime rates. In 2022, a state of emergency was introduced to fight gangs, which significantly limited civil rights. By November 2023, about 75,000 people were arrested out of 6.5 million inhabitants.
