A Pakistani court on Tuesday sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan to 10 years in prison for leaking state secrets. About a hundred more court cases against the former prime minister are ongoing. The charges against him include corruption, terrorism and even blasphemy.

The former head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Shah Mahmud Qura , was also imprisoned for 10 years.

A special court of Pakistan on Tuesday sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan to 10 years in prison for revealing state secrets , the BBC reports.

According to the indictment, Khan disclosed the contents of a secret telegram sent to the government by Pakistan's ambassador in Washington.

The former foreign minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmud Quraish , was also sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Imran Khan, who was removed from the post of prime minister in 2022 , was found guilty of corruption in August 2023 and sentenced to three years in prison.

Khan said the campaign against him was organized to prevent him from returning to office.

After his first conviction, he was barred from running for office, but Khan's lawyers filed a series of appeals seeking a retrial .

The new 10-year prison sentence will deprive him not only of returning to politics, but also of the possibility of release.

The former prime minister's Tahrik -i -Insaf party continues to consider the case fabricated and intends to challenge the verdict, Reuters reports.
