Hamas responds to Trump's "ridiculous" idea
The Palestinian Hamas movement has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump's statement about "seizing and controlling" the Gaza Strip. Izzat al-Rishk, a member of the movement's political bureau, called the statements "nonsense" and stressed that these words reflect a deep ignorance about Palestine and the entire region.
"Looking at the Palestinian issue from the perspective of a real estate agent is a recipe for failure," the statement said. Al-Rishk made it clear that the Gaza Strip is not real estate for sale, but an integral part of Palestine.
Hamas has also vowed to oppose any attempt to forcibly displace the Palestinian people. "Gaza belongs to its people, the Palestinians will not leave their land," al-Rishk said. He said the Palestinians would not agree to any displacement other than returning to the towns and villages they captured in 1948.
Earlier, Donald Trump said that the United States would take control of the Gaza Strip and rebuild it with the support of wealthy countries in the Middle East. He believes that the determination to "take and rule Gaza" is important. Such plans have caused strong opposition around the world, especially from the leaders of Egypt and Jordan, as well as Turkey, China and Russia, who have condemned the idea.
Amidst the protests and opposition of the people of Gaza, this proposal is being viewed as a violation of international law.
