The administration of the Kyrgyz president has developed a draft law to increase the punishment for crimes against foreigners. The proposal came after the events that took place in Bishkek on the night of May 17-18, when a protest against foreign nationals turned into a serious conflict. At that time, 29 foreign students from Pakistan applied for medical help. According to the administration, third parties took advantage of this incident to damage the reputation of the country known for its hospitality.

In the explanatory letter, based on these events in Bishkek, it is emphasized the need to strengthen responsibility for damage to the health and property of foreign citizens.

In the draft law, six articles of the Criminal Code are proposed to be amended by adding special provisions on crimes committed against foreigners.

Sanctions to be determined :

1. Serious injury to the body - deprivation of liberty from 6 to 8 years.

2. Causing minor harm to health (including crimes committed by an organized group) - imprisonment from 5 to 8 years.

3. Theft - confiscation of property and imprisonment from 7 to 10 years.

4. Robbery of property committed by a group of individuals or an organized criminal group - 5 to 8 years with confiscation.

5. Robbery - imprisonment from eight to 12 years with confiscation.

6. Robbery committed by an organized group - imprisonment from 11 to 15 years with confiscation.

It is noted that the purpose of the draft law is to strengthen the protection of foreign citizens and prevent similar incidents in the future.
