Turkey is classified as a "very old country" with 10 percent of its population over the age of 65. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the country has a population of 85.3 million. Life expectancy has dropped to 80 years for women and 74.7 years for men.

The average age of first marriage is 25.7 years for women and 28 years for men.
Marriages under the age of 18 among women have decreased from 8.2 percent to 3.1 percent in 13 years.
According to TÜİK's forecasts, Turkey's population could drop to 54 million by 2099. Also, half of the population is over 65. This puts Turkey among the fastest-aging countries and has a serious impact on the socio-economic situation.
