The number of homeless people in the United States has increased by 12 percent, the highest level in history
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that the number of homeless people in the country has reached a record level.
The statement noted that in January 2023, more than 650,000 people became homeless, and this is the highest figure since 2007, when data were recorded .
The statement also said that the 12 percent increase in the number of homeless people , mainly due to first-time homeless, was also influenced by the rapid increase in rental prices nationwide and the decrease in income during the pandemic.
It was noted that paying the rent is very difficult, about 28 percent of the homeless in the country are from families with children, and this number will increase by more than 25 thousand people from 2022 to 2023.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Marcia Faage said progress has been made in addressing homelessness, but there is still more to do.
