A Palestinian flag was raised next to flags in the Parliament Gardens in the capital, Ljubljana.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Tanya Fajon, noted that they are experiencing a historic day, when Slovenia became the 147th country to officially recognize Palestine as a state.

"We are on the right side of history, contributing to a two-state solution for lasting peace," Fion wrote on social media page X, stressing that the recognition of a Palestinian state is a demonstration of the country's commitment to peace and justice.

Slovenia has officially recognized the state of Palestine.

Last week, the Slovenian government held a meeting to discuss the recognition of the Palestinian state.

In his statement after the meeting, Prime Minister Robert Golob stated that they have decided to recognize Palestine as an independent and sovereign state within the borders of 1967 based on international law and relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UN).

Golob also said that this decision will be brought to the attention of the parliament and asked the deputies to support it.

It should be noted that Spain, Norway and Ireland also decided to officially recognize Palestine on May 28.
