Morocco will buy a spy satellite from Israel for $1 billion
Morocco plans to buy a spy satellite from the Israeli aerospace concern for $1 billion . French media speculated that the agreement was reached last summer, before Israel's invasion of Gaza. However, Rabat did not cancel the agreement despite the ongoing conflict. Earlier, Morocco opened its arms to the Israeli warship, which received a refusal from Spain to supply fuel and food.
Morocco plans to buy a spy satellite from Israel Aerospace Concern (IAI) for $1 billion , the Moroccan press reports.
On July 9, Israel's state-owned IAI announced that it had signed a contract to supply one of its systems to an unnamed third party . Le Desk and Le 360 news sites, citing sources in Rabat, reported that the country in question was Morocco.
IAI also manufactures the Israeli drones used in the Gaza invasion. Therefore, the contract between Morocco and the company cannot be interpreted differently and caused a storm of anger in the Arab countries. At the same time, French publications suggest that the agreement was concluded last summer, before the Israeli invasion of Gaza. However, despite the ongoing conflict, Rabat did not cancel the agreement.
There has been no official confirmation or denial of this information from Morocco or Israel yet.
Economic and political cooperation between the two countries increased after Morocco and Israel normalized diplomatic relations under the 2020 Ibrahim Agreement.
A global analysis conducted by the Stockholm International Research Institute showed that in 2019-2023, Israel was Morocco's third largest source of imports, supplying 11 percent of the North African country's total imports. In turn, in the first five months of 2024, imports from Morocco to Israel amounted to 7.4 million dollars, in the same period of 2023 , this figure was 8.6 million dollars.
It should be noted that earlier, Morocco opened its arms to an Israeli warship that was sailing to the USA and received a refusal from Spain to load fuel and food.
