Uzbekistan and Afghanistan sign $243 million energy deal


On August 17, the Afghan energy company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) and Uzbekistan signed agreements on four projects in the electricity supply sector.

The Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, also attended the signing of the agreement.

Within these projects:

The Surkhan-Dashti-Alvan power transmission network with a capacity of 1,000 MW and a voltage of 500 kV will be built;

The Argandi substation with a capacity of 800 MVA (Megawatt amperes) will be expanded;

The Kabul-Sheikh Masri power transmission network with a voltage of 220 kV and a capacity of 800 MW, and
The Sheikh Masri substation with a capacity of 126 MVA will be built.

It is noted that Uzbekistan will invest $243 million in four projects, which are scheduled to be completed within 18 months. Through this, Afghanistan will be able to import up to 800-1,000 MW of electricity from Uzbekistan.
