Divorces are increasing and marriages are decreasing in Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, the number of marriages has decreased and the number of divorces has increased over the first six months of this year.

According to the National Statistics Committee, the number of marriages registered in January-June of this year amounted to 95.3 thousand. Compared to the same period last year, their number decreased by 2.1 thousand.

More than half of all marriages - 48.7 thousand (51.1 percent) - were registered in urban areas. In rural areas, 46.6 thousand people (48.9 percent) were married.

At the same time, 23.3 thousand couples divorced in the first half of the year, which is 0.8 thousand more than last year. Most of the divorces were recorded in cities. 14.1 thousand couples (60.6 percent) divorced in cities, 9.2 thousand couples (39.4 percent) in rural areas.

By region, the highest number of divorces was observed in Tashkent city (1.5 thousand), Tashkent and Fergana regions (1.2 thousand each). The lowest divorce rate (310) was recorded in Navoi region.
