Divorce has become more expensive in Turkmenistan

Divorce fees in Turkmenistan suddenly increased by 5 times.

Those filing for divorce are required to pay a state fee of 6,000 manats, or more than $3,500.

Local residents say that about six months ago, the toll was 1,200 manats - about $706. Citizens were not given an explanation as to when the tolls were increased.

In Turkmenistan, amid economic difficulties and widespread unemployment, many citizens who decide to annul their marriages are unable to pay the state fee, which has increased fivefold.

According to reports, the number of families deciding to divorce has increased significantly in recent years. In most cases, such families are made up of immigrants from Turkey or Russia.
