The head of the Constitutional Legislation Committee, Cholpon Sultanbekova, confirmed the information that Askar Akaev sent a letter to the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, asking him to return the former president's status. According to him, the appeal was received on July 30.
" The Speaker submitted the letter to our committee, but this is a very long process, consultations will be held with all factions and deputies, and an appropriate decision will be made," said Sult a nbekova.
Let's remind that Akaev was overthrown from power in March 2005. In 2021, he returned to Bishkek for the first time to testify in the Kumtor case.
