Kyrgyzstan has temporarily banned meat exports

After the increase in the price of meat in Uzbekistan and the increase in the volume of exports, this product became more expensive in Kyrgyzstan. Therefore, the Kyrgyz government imposed a temporary ban on meat exports.

Due to the export of meat to Uzbekistan, the price of meat in Kyrgyzstan has increased sharply, reports "Akchabar" with reference to the Kyrgyz Antimonopoly Service.

It is noted that in September 2024, the sudden increase in the price of meat in the markets of Kyrgyzstan worried both consumers and government agencies. According to the data of the National Statistics Committee, the price of beef increased by 38.54 soms or 6.76% in the period from August to September 2024.

In August of this year, the average price of beef was set at 570.23 soms (86.4 thousand soums) per kilogram, and in September this indicator reached 608.77 soms (almost 92 thousand soums).

At first, the organization said that the increase in prices was due to the traditional wedding season in September and lack of feed. However, it was reported that the main factor was the significant increase in meat exports to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

"Now a large amount of meat is going to Uzbekistan, and through it to Tajikistan. In response to this, the Ministry of Agriculture proposed to introduce a temporary ban on the export of meat from the republic," Sirgak Omorov, head of the Department of Regulated Industries of the Antimonopoly Service, told Akchabar.

A temporary ban on meat exports was lifted last week. It is noted that the prices were reduced as a result of the joint activity of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Antimonopoly Service. If at the beginning of September the increase was almost 100 soums, now the prices have returned to their previous level, the service reports.

According to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, in January-July, Uzbekistan brought more than 61,000 head of live cattle worth 11.9 million dollars from Kyrgyzstan, which is 4.7 times more compared to the same period last year (12.8 thousand head for 6.4 million dollars). .

In 2023, Uzbekistan imported 101,300 head of cattle for 28.3 million dollars, which is 5 times more than in 2022 (more than 20 thousand for 16.9 million dollars).

According to the data of the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, the total import of beef in January-August amounted to 58.4 thousand tons for 206.9 million dollars, which is 1.5 times more than the eight-month figure of last year (34.6 thousand tons for 144.6 million dollars).
