"Today we have taken control of 1,294 square kilometers of territory - that's 100 settlements," Sirsky said at the forum of heads of state institutions.

According to him, today 594 servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces were captured in the direction of Kursk.

Sirsky added that about 30,000 Russian military personnel were stationed on the Kursk route.

He noted that the Russian side is trying to withdraw units from other directions, but on the contrary, it is increasing its efforts in the direction of Pokrovsky.

The situation in the Kursk region

The situation in the border areas of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation began to escalate on the morning of August 6, after the Ukrainian army began to conduct an operation in the region. Fierce fighting between Russian and Ukrainian troops continues in the border areas, large-scale drone attacks are recorded in populated areas, and missile warning signals are heard from time to time.

According to the information of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, after the Ukrainian Armed Forces invaded the Kursk region, the fighting continued mainly in Korenevsky and Sudzhansky, and partly in Belovsky and Lgovsky districts of the region.

The situation in the region is recognized as a federal emergency.

In addition, against the background of the aggravation of the situation, the anti-terror operation regime was introduced, which affected three regions of Russia - Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk regions.

Meanwhile, the evacuation of civilians continues in a number of regions . On August 12, the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, informed Vladimir Putin that 121,000 of the 180,000 people who were supposed to be evacuated had already left the region. According to the latest information, 133,000 people left the border areas of the Kursk region. As of August 21, 31 people were confirmed dead and 143 injured.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the actions of the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kursk region "another large-scale provocation."
