Earlier, on August 12, acting governor of the region Alexei Smirnov informed the President of Russia Vladimir Putin that 12 people were killed and 121 others were injured as a result of the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region.

The situation in the Kursk region

On the morning of August 6, the Armed Forces of Ukraine invaded the border areas of the Kursk region of Russia. Fierce fighting continues between Russian and Ukrainian troops in the border areas, large-scale attacks by drones are recorded in populated areas, and warning signals about missile attacks are heard from time to time.

According to the information of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, after the Ukrainian Armed Forces invaded the Kursk region, the fighting continued mainly in Korenevsky and Suja districts of the region, and partly in Belovsky and Lgovsky districts.

The situation in the region is recognized as a federal emergency.

In addition, an anti-terrorist operation regime was introduced in Belgorod, Kursk and Bryansk regions of Russia.

At the moment, evacuation of civilians continues in a number of areas. On August 12, the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, informed Vladimir Putin that 121,000 of the 180,000 people who were supposed to be evacuated had already left the region. In turn, the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation reported that more than 121 thousand people were displaced from the border regions of the Kursk region.

At the moment, the Ukrainian side claims that more than 90 settlements in the Kursk region are under control.

It should be noted that earlier the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the city of Suja was under the control of the Ukrainian army.
