Russia and China have vetoed a US-proposed UN Security Council resolution to support diplomatic efforts to end a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The representative of Russia called the US initiative hypocritical and emphasized that meaningless resolutions that do not require opening fire and lead nowhere will not be adopted.

The United States vetoed a draft resolution prepared by the ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, which called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza. This is the fifth time the United States has blocked a ceasefire resolution in the Gaza Strip since the Middle East conflict erupted last October.
