The United States vetoed the draft resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict prepared by ten non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, which demanded an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza, TASS reported.
14 out of 15 members of the Security Council voted for the document. This is the fifth time the United States has blocked a ceasefire resolution in the Gaza Strip since the Middle East conflict erupted last October.
The draft resolution was drafted by 10 non-permanent members of the Security Council and consists of nine points, the first of which includes "a demand for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire by all parties". The document calls for the release of all hostages held in the enclave, compliance with international law by all parties, and access to humanitarian aid for the civilian population of Gaza. In the draft resolution, there is also a clause that, if the document is adopted, the UN Secretary General should submit a written report on the implementation of the resolution to the Security Council within three weeks.
According to the Ministry of Health of the sector, since the military operation that started in October last year, a total of 44 thousand Palestinians have been killed and 104 thousand wounded in Gaza.
