Retired Lt. Col. Rich Outzen, an expert on US geopolitics, said that the explosion of pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon is a new type of threat in the scale of the 21st century that everyone should consider. Outzen speculated that Israeli intelligence identified the orders placed by Hezbollah and planted explosives in the equipment while the production center or the order was en route.

The Minister of Health of Lebanon reported that 25 people were killed in the explosion of walkie-talkies, and 12 people were killed in the explosion of pagers, a total of 37 people.
