When Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, Environment Minister Idit Silman, Economy Minister Nir Barkat and Energy Minister Eli Cohen arrived at the funeral, relatives of the victims chased them out of the ceremony. They did not want to turn the tragedy into a political event. "We demand to be given the opportunity to hold a peaceful funeral according to Druze traditions," the community leaders wrote in their appeal to the Israeli government.
