Uzbekistan's public debt exceeds $42 billion



As of April 1, Uzbekistan's public debt exceeded $42.4 billion.

According to the website of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, in January-March 2025, Uzbekistan's public debt increased by $2.2 billion, exceeding $42.4 billion. Of this, external debt amounted to $35.5 billion, and domestic debt amounted to $6.9 billion.

Of the $19.7 billion in foreign loans, $15.7 billion was at a fixed interest rate, with a variable interest rate.

The share of external debt in the structure of public debt is growing rapidly. For example, last year, the amount of loans received from abroad increased by more than $1.4 billion per quarter.

According to the ministry's report, $19.3 billion, or 54 percent, of the state's external debt was provided by international financial institutions. The largest creditors were the World Bank ($7.74 billion) and the Asian Development Bank ($7.44 billion).
