Uzbekistan seeks to strengthen cooperation with Malaysia in combating radicalism and Islamophobia
On February 5, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid an official visit to Malaysia. During talks at the Perdana Putra government complex, he discussed issues of developing bilateral cooperation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
A new path to innovative collaboration has been opened
The parties agreed to declare 2025-2026 a period of innovative development of the Uzbek-Malaysian partnership. The priority areas of economic cooperation were identified as petrochemicals, electronics, "smart" agriculture, "green" energy, and pilgrimage tourism.
Trade and industrial cooperation is expanding
The presidents agreed to develop a preferential trade agreement, hold mutual industrial exhibitions, and adopt an Industrial Cooperation Program. It was also announced that a special economic zone will be established in the Tashkent region under the management of a leading Malaysian company.
Cultural and humanitarian ties will be strengthened
The heads of state stressed the importance of further expanding cooperation in the cultural and educational spheres. This year, it is planned to hold cultural weeks in the two countries.
Security and regional cooperation
During the negotiations, the issue of strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism, radicalism, and Islamophobia was also discussed.
At the end of the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Anvar Ibrahim to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan.
