Uzbek Senate approves law allowing gambling

Yesterday, February 21, the Senate approved a law allowing gambling and risk-based games to be licensed.

In order to regulate gambling, such rules as licensing this sector, determining the categories of citizens prohibited from participating in these games, maintaining a list of persons addicted to gambling, and the specific features of bookmaking activities are provided for, the commentary to this document states.

A few days ago, a young man in Fergana, who was in debt due to gambling, stabbed the mother of three children to death. Before this, we have heard many stories of authorized persons, such as bank or MIB employees, betting the funds entrusted to them on online gambling. At a time when the number of people who gamble everything they have, get into huge debt on top of that, and then harm themselves and others, is increasing, it is difficult to understand why the government allows gambling for various reasons.
