Unique artifacts brought to Uzbekistan from Saudi Arabia
13 rare and valuable exhibits were brought from Saudi Arabia to be exhibited at the Center for Islamic Civilization. The exhibits will be exhibited in Uzbekistan from September 2025 to March 2026. They are inextricably linked with the history, culture of the Islamic world and the spiritual heritage of Uzbekistan, allowing our compatriots and foreign guests to get acquainted with the rich historical treasure.
According to Elyor Mullajonov, a research fellow at the center, one of the rarest exhibits is the Keys of the Holy Kaaba from the Mamluk era, a unique work made of brass, decorated with silver, and engraved with verses from the Quran.
The works on display in the exhibition belong to different periods and regions, including:
▪️Kumgan from the Ghaznavid era is a cast bronze model decorated with carved patterns;
▪️A Seljuk-era inkwell is a work of art carved from stone;
▪️Early Islamic ceramic plates - created in the 4th-5th centuries AH;
▪️Quran manuscripts - decorated copies in Eastern Kufic and Naskh script;
▪️Pages from Abu Ali ibn Sino's "The Canon of Medicine" - from the first edition in 1549;
▪️Mahmal — a ceremonial basket used to carry the Kaaba Kiswa;
▪️The veil of the Hazrat Ibrahim maqomi is a unique work of art sewn during the Ottoman period;
▪️Chess pieces are playing equipment carved from animal bones;
▪️The cover of a historical book is a Central Asian pattern decorated with gold and paint.
It is said that this cooperation will not only widely promote the cultural heritage of the Islamic world, but also strengthen cultural ties between Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan.
