Today, on June 29, UN Secretary General António Guterres will start his trip to the countries of Central Asia. This was reported by the information service of the organization.

It is noted that he will first visit Uzbekistan, then Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Guterres arrived in the region in 2017. The current trip will last until July 7.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary General, said at a briefing in New York on Friday that Guterres will meet with the head of state and high-ranking government representatives in each country, learn about projects to combat climate change, and communicate with local activists.

On July 4, the UN Secretary General will participate in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana. In his speech, Guterres emphasizes the need to reaffirm commitment to multilateral principles based on the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He says peace must be at the center of these efforts.

The UN Secretary General also wants to warn the international community that geopolitical conflicts do not allow to effectively eliminate common threats, including the fight against climate change.
