The US is eyeing the rare mineral resources of Central Asia
After reaching an agreement with Ukraine to jointly mine strategic resources, the United States is eyeing Central Asia as the next important region for extracting rare earth minerals, The National Interest reports.
According to the publication, Washington sees the agreement in Ukraine as a first step towards reducing dependence on China for its mineral resources. China currently controls about two-thirds of the world market. However, Ukraine's resources alone are not enough, so the United States is seeking to enter Central Asia in order to strengthen its presence in other regions. This region, which has large reserves, is becoming a major focus of the United States, despite the strong influence of China and Russia.
According to research, countries in the region are seeking to diversify their foreign economic relations and are actively strengthening ties with the West. This creates opportunities for the United States, given the growing demand for rare earth resources in the energy and high-tech sectors, the publication writes.
