TEMU may resume operations in Uzbekistan – discussions continue
A serious legal process is underway in Uzbekistan regarding the activities of the TEMU electronic trading platform. Initially, the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 885, adopted on December 26, 2024, essentially limited the activities of TEMU on March 4 of this year.
Because only local residents registered as legal entities are allowed to engage in e-commerce in the country, the TEMU platform was also found to not comply with the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan on e-commerce, advertising, personal data, and copyright.
However, according to recent reports, TEMU has officially registered as a legal entity in Uzbekistan and received local resident status, which will allow the marketplace to operate in compliance with the country's legal requirements.
At the same time, according to the State Tax Committee, some issues related to TEMU have not yet been fully resolved. In particular, discussions regarding the previous periods of the platform's activity are ongoing. After the process is completed, an official decision on the future activities of TEMU is expected to be announced .
