On July 1, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who is in the country on an official visit to Kuksaroy. This was reported by the press service of the president.

At the beginning of the conversation, the Secretary General of the UN expressed deep gratitude to the head of state for the invitation to visit Uzbekistan and the warm welcome.

Warmly welcoming the high-ranking guest, the head of state Guterres' second visit to the republic is a confirmation of the full support of the UN for the irreversible reforms implemented within the framework of the "Uzbekistan-2030" strategy.

During the negotiations, the issues of ensuring global and regional peace, stability and consistent development, further expansion of multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, implementation of joint projects aimed at achieving the goals of sustainable development were discussed.

"140 joint programs and projects are being successfully implemented. In the following years, 10 special resolutions of the UN General Assembly were adopted at the initiative of Uzbekistan.

Since the beginning of the year, five Deputy Secretary Generals of the UN have visited Uzbekistan. Last month, our country was elected to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Administrative Council of the International Labor Organization. The representative of Uzbekistan became a member of the UN Human Rights Committee for the first time. Another special institution of the UN - the representative office of the International Fund for the Development of Agriculture has started working in Tashkent," the report said.

Major international events on the global agenda, including food security, tourism development, combating poverty and climate change, and biodiversity protection, are being held together. Next year, the 43rd general conference of UNESCO will be held in Samarkand.

Opinions were also exchanged on issues of international and regional importance. The head of state expressed his firm support for the Secretary General's initiatives to ensure international security and stability, reform the UN and its main bodies, and hold the Future Summit in New York this year.

Development of interdependence in the region in terms of transport, issues of cooperation in food, energy and information security were considered.

In addition, the situation in Afghanistan was discussed, and the need to expand humanitarian aid to the Afghan people and develop a general strategy of the world community towards this country was emphasized.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached on joint development of Uzbekistan's program of cooperation with the UN on Sustainable Development Goals in 2026-2030.

After that, a ceremony was held at the Koksaroy residence to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for his services in actively promoting harmony and solidarity in the world, increasing the efficiency of the organization, as well as for his services in strengthening the cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN - one of the highest state awards of the country - the Order of "High Level Friendship". .

While handing over the award, the head of state specially recognized the personal contribution of A. Guterres to the current high level of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN.
