Nearly 50 students caught involved in drug trafficking in six months

Drug abuse among young people in Uzbekistan is growing at an alarming rate. According to the National Center, 46 students of higher education institutions were found to be involved in drug trafficking in the first six months of this year.

According to Muhammadkadir Mahmudov, senior inspector of the national center, the number of drug crimes has increased by 23 percent compared to last year. In 2024, 5 drug laboratories were exposed, but by the middle of this year, their number had increased to 8.

Mahmudov noted that the worst thing is that drugs are now also found in coffee, sweets or drinks. They can cause addiction after just one consumption.

Because the effects of modern drugs are not as immediate as they used to be, parents often fail to notice dangerous changes in their children.

"Today's 'drug addict' is not as weak as he used to be - he may appear active, alert, and alert. This is a deceptive state. Later, pain and mental anguish can lead him to ruin," he warned.
