Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan end 23-year border dispute
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon have signed an agreement on the state border, ending nearly 23 years of negotiations and resolving the disputed territory, which is approximately 980 kilometers long.
The signing ceremony took place on March 13 in Bishkek, at the Intimok Orda residence as part of the state visit of the President of Tajikistan.
Japarov called the agreement a significant event and stressed the need to strengthen good neighborly relations. In turn, Rahmon noted that the signed package of documents opens a new page in bilateral relations.
This was followed by negotiations between delegations from the two countries, during which a number of agreements were signed that serve the interests of both countries.
