Is land being given to the Chinese in Samarkand?

Earlier, a video message from a person who identified himself as Z. Amonov, an employee of the Urgut district "Agropromi", was circulated on social networks. In his speech, he said that the lands of farms that did not fulfill the cocoon, grain and cotton plan, and did not pay taxes, would be given to Chinese investors. https://kun.uz/kr/news/2025/06/10/ekishni-khohlamagannaring-yeri-khitoyliklarga-beriladi-urgutda-fermerlar-shunday-ogohlantirdi

The Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan expressed its reaction to this video. https://gov.uz/oz/agro/news/view/60481

According to the legislation, a farmer is an entrepreneur who uses land plots on a lease basis, grows agricultural products, and engages in other activities not prohibited by law.

Article 22 of the Law "On Farming" strictly prohibits interference by state bodies, other organizations, or their officials in the activities of farms.

According to Article 24 of the Land Code, a land lease agreement may be terminated early only by agreement of the parties or by a court decision.

"Therefore, any attempt to deprive farmers of their land through any external pressure, threat, or coercion is completely contrary to current legislation," the ministry said.

In addition, land in Uzbekistan is considered exclusively state property and its transfer to foreign citizens or companies is prohibited (Article 16 of the Land Code).

Therefore, statements about allocating land to Chinese citizens or companies are unfounded, illegal, and untrue, the Ministry of Agriculture stressed.
