Gulnara Karimova's $182 million assets to be returned to Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, February 6 - Uzbekistan has signed a new agreement with Switzerland on the return of confiscated assets belonging to Gulnara Karimova. Under the agreement, $182 million will be returned to Uzbekistan.

The agreement was signed by Uzbek Justice Minister Akbar Tashkulov and Swiss Ambassador to Uzbekistan Konstantin Obolensky. According to the Justice Ministry, the funds were confiscated as part of a criminal case against Gulnara Karimova in 2012.

Return through the Uzbekistan Vision 2030 Fund

The returned funds will be channeled by the United Nations (UN) through the Uzbekistan Vision 2030 Multi-Partnership Trust Fund. These funds will be used to support social projects for the benefit of the population of Uzbekistan, including:
✅ Health care
✅ Education
✅ Used to improve maternal and child health.

For example, in September 2023, the fund allocated $43.5 million to a UN program aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality.

$313 million returned

👉 In 2022, Uzbekistan and Switzerland signed an agreement to return $131 million.
👉 With the new agreement, this amount increased to $313 million.

Gulnara Karimova's assets are estimated at $1.4 billion

The total assets of Gulnara Karimova and her criminal group in France, the United States, Latvia, and other countries are estimated at $1.4 billion (approximately 15 trillion soums).

Deputy Minister of Justice Muzraf Ikramov noted that 1,400 schools could be built with this funding.

We remind you that Gulnara Karimova was sentenced to 5 years of restriction of liberty in 2015. In 2019, she was transferred to a colony, and in 2020 - to 13 years and 4 months of imprisonment.

He was charged with crimes such as "embezzlement of state funds, concluding transactions contrary to the interests of Uzbekistan, and extortion."
