Convicted persons in Kyrgyzstan can no longer be president



President Sadir Japarov signed the law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Kyrgyz Republic."

The news applies to persons with a criminal record, including those whose convictions have been expunged or expunged, as well as those whose criminal cases have been dismissed on grounds that do not lead to rehabilitation.

According to the change, such individuals are now:

President of Kyrgyzstan;
Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh;
Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers;

cannot hold a member of the CEC for elections and referendums or other important positions.

In addition, religious figures cannot become President or a deputy for five years after ceasing religious activities.

The law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on June 18, 2025.
