Beijing is turning East Turkestan into a "genocide laboratory"
The Chinese government held a meeting in Urumqi on the governance of East Turkestan, announcing the opening of a new branch of the Academy of Social Sciences. Officials said the new branch was created to "effectively govern" the region.
The meeting was attended by Chen Qiuyang, who has been accused of ethnic genocide by the West, Erkin Tuniyaz, as well as the head of the Academy, Gao Xiang. They praised the strategy developed by the Chinese Communist Party for the Uyghur Autonomous Region as "a weapon for social stability and strengthening the consciousness of the nation."
For reference, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) is a government-level research institute and think tank. The new branch is the third Chinese center to open in East Turkestan in six months. Analysts believe that Beijing wants to further systematize its aggressive policy in the region by combining theoretical research and practical measures.
