Azerbaijani President says Uzbekistan gave the first gift in restoring Karabakh

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for Uzbekistan's efforts to restore Karabakh at a media forum in Khankendi. In response to a question from Uzbek journalist Sherzodkhon Kudratkhodja, he said:

"The support of our Uzbek brothers is very important to us. The first gift on the path to the restoration of Karabakh was given by Uzbekistan. At the initiative of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, we opened a school named after Mirzo Ulugbek in Fuzuli, designed for 960 students."

Sherzodkhan Kudratkhodja asked the Azerbaijani President several questions during the forum. In particular, he asked about the Zangezur Corridor and Ilham Aliyev's father, Heydar Aliyev. The President said that the Zangezur Corridor will be an important artery connecting several countries. Touched by the question about his father, he acknowledged that Heydar Aliyev showed a true example of patriotism in difficult times for the country.

"He was not young at that time, he was in his 70s, and he also had health problems. But he was able to track down the situation. My father was the person who most wanted Karabakh to be liberated, but, unfortunately, he did not live to see these days," said Ilham Aliyev.
