Azerbaijan cleared more than 158,000 mines and unexploded ammunition placed by the Armenian army in the liberated territories. Since the end of the war, 70 Azerbaijani citizens have been killed and 309 injured as a result of mine explosions planted by Armenian forces during the occupation.

Mine clearance continues in the Karabakh region freed from Armenian occupation and surrounding areas. According to estimates, the Armenian side planted hundreds of thousands of mines in the liberated areas.

Demining works are being carried out by the Azerbaijani Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) together with the engineering units of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Border Service and a number of private enterprises also contribute to this process.

"Anadolu" collected information about demining operations carried out in Karabakh and surrounding areas, as well as about victims of mine explosions. According to him, since the end of the Second Karabakh War on November 10, 2020, 162,000 hectares have been cleared.

More than 104,000 unexploded ammunition, more than 33,000 anti-personnel mines and more than 20,000 anti-tank mines were found in the cleared areas. In total, more than 158,000 mines and unexploded ammunition were neutralized.
