The month of Ramadan is considered one of the most virtuous and blessed months for the Muslim community. The reward for every good deed done during this month is multiplied, especially the reward for charity and charitable deeds is very great. Allah Almighty has blessed us in the Holy Quran: "Whoever does a good deed will have ten times its reward" (An'am, 160).
Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) always increased his generosity during the month of Ramadan. The companions even described him as "more generous than the fastest wind" (Bukhari, Muslim). Such generosity was continued by the companions and Islamic rulers. For example, Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) gave away several caravans of goods to the needy during Ramadan.
Famous Muslim rulers throughout history have also been known to be generous during Ramadan. For example, Sultan Saladin Ayyubid gave away a large portion of his wealth to the needy and fed hundreds of orphans and widows each Ramadan.
