US closes military bases in Syria
The US is gradually reducing its presence in Syria, leaving only one military base there.
The US ambassador to Ankara, Tom Barrack, said that seven of the eight military bases in Syria, including the one in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor, will be closed. Operations will continue only in the northeastern province of Hasakah. The US has already begun relocating military equipment and troops.
The US also plans to reduce the number of troops in Syria. There are currently about 2,000 American soldiers in the country. The reduction in the contingent is being cited as a result of the "significant successes" achieved in the fight against ISIS over the past decade.
For your information, the US-led international coalition began the fight against ISIS in Syria in 2014.
