The military in power in Niger has canceled an agreement with the United States that allowed the American contingent to remain in the country, AFP reports, citing Amadou Abdraman, a representative of Niger's transitional government.
It is said that the decision will take effect immediately.
The Niger junta made such a decision after the visit of American officials to the country. The delegation was led by Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Fee and Commander of the US Africa Command, General Michael Langley.
Abdraman explained that the US delegation did not follow the diplomatic protocol, that Niger was not informed about the composition of the delegation, the date of its arrival and the agenda. He added that the conversation focused on ongoing developments in Niger's defense sector and military cooperation between the two countries.
