Trump and Putin agree on resolution of Ukraine conflict over phone
On February 12, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation that lasted about an hour and a half. The leaders discussed the conflict in Ukraine and stressed the need for a peaceful resolution.
The parties agreed to immediately assign their teams to begin negotiations. During the conversation, Trump and Putin also discussed the situation in the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence and the strength of the dollar.
Kremlin and Washington officials said they also discussed the exchange of citizens between Russia and the United States during the conversation. According to the Russian presidential press service, Putin and Trump agreed to organize mutual visits.
After the conversation, Trump called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and announced the start of the negotiation process.
