Three imams in Russia warned over fatwas and statements on polygamy

Munir Beyusov, head of the Ulema Council of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Muslim Religious Administration, Artur Mukhutdinov, head of the Sverdlovsk Region Muslim Religious Administration, and Damir Mukhutdinov, first deputy chairman of the Muslim Religious Administration of Russia, received warnings from the prosecutor's office for their statements on polygamy.

Statements by the Council of Ulema of the Religious Administration of Muslims of Russia supporting and justifying theological conclusions on polygamy have come to the attention of law enforcement agencies.

It was also reported that Munir Beyusov was taken to the prosecutor's office. Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia submitted a submission to the Chairman of the Religious Administration of Muslims of Russia regarding the fatwa on polygamy.

It should be noted that the Religious Administration of Muslims of Russia issued a fatwa permitting polygamy, provided that the couple is treated fairly, has equal time, and is provided with separate housing. Later, the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia found the fatwa of the Religious Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation permitting polygamy "contrary to current legislation and legislative acts in the field of preserving the foundations of state family policy and strengthening traditional Russian spiritual and moral values." In this regard, it proposed to cancel this fatwa.
