The US sold a record $238 billion in arms in 2023

In the 2023 financial year, the United States sold weapons to foreign countries at a record level - 238 billion dollars. It is said that Russia's war in Ukraine was the main reason for this result.

According to a State Department report, the war in Ukraine has sharply increased demand for American weapons , and arms exports reached a record $238 billion in the last fiscal year.

US government transactions with foreign governments increased significantly in fiscal year 2023, according to a State Department report released Monday. Their total value increased by 56% and amounted to 81 billion dollars.

The remaining $157.5 billion came from direct sales by American military-industrial companies to their customers. Their volume also increased , but not by a large amount : by 2.5 percent compared to the 2022 financial year.

The US fiscal year begins on October 1.

It is noted that the demand for US weapons has increased sharply, especially as a result of Russia's war against Ukraine.

After Russia 's invasion of Ukraine, Poland , one of the main buyers of American weapons, has set itself the goal of creating the most powerful ground army in Europe.

Poland bought Apache helicopters worth $12 billion, HIMARS missile systems worth $10 billion, M1A1 Abrams tanks worth $3.75 billion, and air and missile defense systems worth four billion dollars.

And Germany bought Chinook helicopters from the US for 8.5 billion dollars. The Czech Republic ordered 5.6 billion dollars worth of the latest F -35 fighter jets and ammunition, Bulgaria - 1.5 billion dollars worth of Stryker armored vehicles, and Norway - one billion dollars worth of multipurpose helicopters.

American weapons and military equipment are also being bought outside of Europe. South Korea has bought $5 billion of F-35s in fiscal year 2023, Australia has ordered $6.3 billion of C130J-30 Super Hercules military transport aircraft, and Japan is paying $1 billion for E-2D Hawkeye reconnaissance aircraft.
