The number of cholera victims in Sudan has reached 252
The number of cholera cases spread in eight regions of Sudan reached 7,296, and the number of victims of the epidemic reached 252. Armed conflicts in the country have destroyed the health system. The ongoing rains and floods since June are making the situation even more complicated.
According to the Ministry of Health of Sudan, the number of people who died from the cholera epidemic in the country reached 252. Currently, the disease has spread in eight provinces. The total number of cholera patients identified in these areas reached 7,296.
Earlier, on August 12, the Sudanese government announced the outbreak of cholera.
Cholera is an acute diarrheal infection caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae when contaminated food or water enters the body. If left untreated, it can be fatal within hours.
Water supply and basic sanitation are required to combat cholera epidemics. However, Sudan's ongoing civil war, a health crisis, and continued rainfall and flooding since June have hampered the fight against the epidemic. And the epidemic is making life more difficult for millions of Sudanese Muslims who are already suffering from hunger and homelessness.
