The Afghan government has banned Richard Bennett, the UN special rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, from entering the country. Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban official, said this in an interview with Deutsche Welle (DW).

He stated that most international institutions, mainly the UN, are "biased" and "hostile".

Mujahid informed about the meeting held with representatives of the United Nations Assistance Mission to Afghanistan (UNAMA) in Kabul. Adequate warnings have been issued, the Afghan government has rejected human rights reports issued by the UN, he said.

"Mr Bennet has been banned from traveling to Afghanistan because he has been assigned to campaign in Afghanistan. He is not someone we can trust. He has no place in Afghanistan and is not allowed to come because he is busy with propaganda work. He exaggerated minor issues and gave false information to other institutions," said Mujahid.

According to him, the UN institutions do not see the "positive events" happening in Afghanistan, but focus on "weak issues in their opinion". "They are making every effort to carry out propaganda against Afghanistan," he added.

Bennett was appointed UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan in April 2022. He criticized the current administration of Afghanistan for the human rights situation in the country.

In turn, the Afghan administration claims that the reports of the international community, particularly in the field of human rights, are "contrary to the realities in Afghanistan."
