Protests erupt in Los Angeles over immigration raids

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Saturday, June 7, to deploy 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to disperse protests that have erupted in response to immigration raids.

The protests began on Friday after raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a Los Angeles neighborhood, leading to clashes between protesters and federal agents.

Protesters threw eggs and rocks at border patrol vehicles. Law enforcement responded with rubber bullets and stun grenades. At least 44 people were arrested.

Trump's executive order states that protests that obstruct the enforcement of immigration laws "constitute a rebellion" against the US government.
