The NATO Council announced an 18.2 and 12 percent increase in the alliance's civilian and military budgets for the next year. After the increase, the military budget of the bloc will be 2.03 billion euros, and the civilian budget will be 438.1 million euros, the press service of the alliance reports.

Mircea Joan e , Deputy Secretary General of the alliance, said that the increase in funding will allow NATO to solve security problems more effectively.

"Joint funding demonstrates the solidarity and collective will of allies. We need it more than ever in these troubled times," the official said.

NATO's press statement also stated that the military budget will be directed to operational costs of the alliance's command structure and international operations. Funds from the Alliance's civilian budget are used for operational costs, including the maintenance of the Alliance's headquarters in Brussels.

A year ago , the alliance increased the military and civilian budgets: 1.96 billion euros or 27.8% more funds were allocated to military purposes , while the civilian budget was set at 370.8 million euros or 25% more than in 2022 .
