King Felipe VI of Spain criticizes President Trump's decision

Madrid – King Felipe VI of Spain has criticized US President Donald Trump's decision to remove the Spanish language from the official White House website.

The king made the announcement in Madrid at an event organized by the Instituto Cervantes, a global Spanish institute dedicated to language education, culture and the arts, and expressed hope that this was a "temporary solution."

Felipe VI noted that the number of Spanish speakers in the United States could reach 100 million by 2050. He also noted that the Instituto Cervantes has five centers in the United States, noting that Spanish has become one of the leading languages in education in the country.

Luis Garcia Montero, director general of the Instituto Cervantes, criticized Trump's decision, calling it disrespectful to the approximately 60 million Spanish speakers in the United States. He noted that Spanish in the United States is not only the language of immigrants, but also plays an important role in the fields of culture, science and technology.

Trump has made similar decisions before during his presidency.
