39 members of the Iranian parliament have appealed to the Supreme National Security Council with a proposal to amend the national defense doctrine, which currently prohibits the creation of nuclear weapons, TRT reports.
The initiator of the letter, MP Hasanali Akhlaki Amiri, explained this proposal by the impunity of Israel's actions in the region and the need to strengthen Iran's defense capabilities.
"Today, no international organization, not even European and American countries, can control the Zionist regime, so this false regime commits all kinds of crimes. Based on this, 39 parliamentarians wrote a letter to the Supreme Council of National Security, inviting the council to revise the Iranian defense doctrine," the deputy explained.
For years, Iran has banned the production of nuclear weapons, following Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei's fatwa, which considers weapons to be against Islamic principles.
