For the first time in history, robots took part in military training alongside soldiers
In the US, robot soldiers and armed robotic vehicles took part in military exercises.
According to the global defense publication Military Times, the US military tested the participation of robots and armed robotic vehicles in military exercises using live ammunition at the Second Human-Machine Integration Summit in October.
According to General James Rainey, head of the Future Command of the US Army, who led the exercise, it was the first time in history that two light infantry platoons consisting of real soldiers were joined by robot combat vehicles and robot soldiers, and robots were integrated into these platoons.
During the training at the Fort Moore military base in Georgia, the robot soldiers were very effective and performed better than expected. In the urban warfare-style exercises, the robots not only led other humans on the battlefield, but became the first units to fight both in the open and inside buildings, so that the platoons they belonged to could advance.
Training within the framework of the top-secret US robot soldier project was accompanied by human-controlled robotic military vehicles. Controlled by 20 soldiers, these robotic vehicles "cleared the battlefield of enemy units, threw grenades or smoke bombs when necessary, and acted as shields for other units when needed," according to the information provided by Kolag.
In real-time combat exercises, robotic vehicles neutralized enemy drones, jammed enemy signals, and expanded the communications network of soldiers in their unit. Medium-sized drones in cars entered buildings through roofs, and small drones entered buildings through windows, recording the entire interior of enemy buildings and guiding soldiers in their units. Robot military dogs can enter buildings and check for chemical or biological threats.
