First Palestinian ambassador to Ireland appointed
Palestine has appointed Gilan Wahba Abdelmajid as its first ambassador to Ireland. He previously headed the Palestine Mission in Ireland.
On November 5, Gilan Wahba Abdelmajid, formerly the head of the Palestinian mission, was officially appointed as the first Palestinian ambassador to Ireland.
Dublin's recognition of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state in May paved the way for the establishment of full diplomatic relations on September 29.
On October 17, the Palestinian Authority requested that the Palestinian mission in Ireland be converted into a permanent embassy in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention on the Protection of Diplomatic Personnel.
